A Hartford insurance quote for car insurance comes mainly through the AARP Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford, which you can start online or by phone. This guide explains who can join, which discounts and add-ons the program lists, and how to compare a Hartford quote with other insurers by ZIP.

How the AARP program works
AARP is not the insurer. Per The Hartford's AARP car insurance page, AARP does not underwrite auto insurance; The Hartford is the insurance provider and administers the policy. The Hartford has protected AARP members since 1984 and pays royalty fees to AARP for the use of its name.
Business insurance is not covered here. The Hartford also sells commercial policies, but this guide and our quote forms are for personal auto and home insurance only.
Coverage options and program add-ons
Standard coverages are liability, collision, comprehensive and uninsured/underinsured motorist. The Hartford lists these optional benefits for AARP members (coverage page); availability, terms and conditions vary by state:
- New car replacement (replaces a totaled new car with the same make and model, without depreciation)
- RecoverCare (helps pay for home services, like house cleaning, if you're injured in an accident)
- Lifetime car repair assurance at The Hartford's authorized repair shops
- Disappearing Deductible (lowers your collision deductible over time with a clean record; not available in California)
- Rental car reimbursement
- Accident Forgiveness (requires five accident-free years with The Hartford for all drivers; not available in California)
